The PPA Festival 2017

The PPA Festival 2017

Fake News. Short-Termism. Artificial Intelligence. Trust. Transparency. Mindfulness.

These were just a few of the subjects discussed and debated across the 6 stages at yesterday’s PPA Festival. The salubrious setting of Tobacco Dock played host to hundreds of industry folk as they networked and digested all of the information on offer.

I split my time there across the various stages, with the following:

Sessions relevant to my Job Role

  • A deep dive into Hearst’s partnership with the Jamie Oliver Group
  • How to build great stories through the power of content marketing

Sessions relevant to my Personal Passion Points

  • What 5 a side football can teach us about team-building
  • Interview with Empire Magazine’s Editor in chief Terri White

Initiative Session

  • Millennials and Media – a view from the front-line (featuring our very own Scott Bilbe on the panel)

Headspace Session

  • Learning how to switch off – a guide to mindfulness and meditation in the workplace

My Key Take-outs from the day

  • When partnering with a media owner, it’s important to stay true your own brand values
  • Sport is a great way to truly build relations, by taking colleagues out of the workplace and seeing their true personalities through team engagement
  • Often the best influencers and advocates are the brand’s consumers themselves
  • YouTube views can be perceived to be a limited metric – no direct link to engagement
  • Important to note that branded content is often non-quantifiable – it’s all about building emotional engagement
  • Yoga / desk exercises are incredibly important to maintaining a healthy posture, and can have a direct impact on ensuring positive mental attitude
  • Whilst the majority of VR that we experience in the media industry can be seen to be quite “gimmicky”, there is now a steady rise in usage that could truly revolutionise the engineering and medical industries
